The healthcare model is shifting focus from “Disease-centric” to “Person-centric”, empowering individuals and caregivers to manage care at home and make healthcare more sustainable. The approach allows individuals to make own decisions, including “Dignified Death”. This talk will showcase how Community Nurses manage palliative clients with continence care in the community setting.

The materials and design of catheters have evolved over time. To ensure the best patient outcomes and minimal complications, it is essential that healthcare practitioners stay updated about catheter care. This talk reviews current options for urinary catheterization, their associated complications and provides approaches to the assessment and management of catheters in patients with urinary dysfunction.

FAECAL INCONTINENCE AND ITS NURSING MANAGEMENT Ms Ong Choo Eng
Faecal incontinence can be caused by multifactorial reason, and management of the condition is dependent on primary diagnosis and patient’s quality of life. Learn more about first-line nursing management of faecal incontinence, such as anorectal biofeedback, pelvic floor exercises, continence sanitary padding or anal plug, dietary advice and Trans Anal Irrigation in this session.

PRACTICAL DIETARY TIPS FOR INCONTINENCE MANAGEMENT Ms Chow Pek Yee
This talk will address how diet can affect urinary and faecal incontinence, providing food tips to overcome these challenges, and ensuring nutrition adequacy and hydration is not compromised. With special reference to patient with comorbidities such as heart failure, kidney failure with fluid restriction or patients requiring specific texture modified diet and / or fluid viscosity.

Ms. Rosaline Tay is the senior nurse clinician in the Urology Clinic, Changi General Hospital since 1997. She completed the Urology Nursing Course (1997), Management of Incontinence Course (1998) and was awarded the overseas training scholarships to Urology / Continence Management in Westmead Hospital and Community Health Services, Australia (2000).Ms. Tay has won numerous awards with the SUA Scientific Meeting Nursing papers, some including the “Teaching the Male Patient pelvic floor muscle using perineal ultrasonography” (2003) that was also presented at the XIXth EAU Congress in Austria Center, Vienna, Austria and “Accuracy and Precision of Handheld Bladderscan BVI 6100 in residual urine volume measurement: a comparison with transabdominal ultrasounds scanner and urethral catheterisation”, that also presented at the 9th Asian Congress of Urology in New Delhi, India (2008). “A randomised cross-over study of Silver-coated silicone catheter and 100% silicone Foley’s catheter in patients requiring long term indwelling catheters.”, was presented at the Asian Congress of Urology (2010) in Taiwan.

Dr Juriyah Yatim is the Assistant Director of Nursing in Singapore General Hospital (SGH). She was a qualified Registered Nurse since 1990, obtained Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) in 2000 and completed Advanced Diploma in Nephro-Urology in 2002. She then pursued Master of Nursing in 2008 from National University of Singapore. And in 2015 she has attained her Doctor of Nursing Practice, a practice doctorate, from Duke University School of Nursing, North Carolina, USA.

She is very passionate and active in research and evidence-based practices. She has produced and presented many nursing papers, in many platforms, locally and overseas. She has several publications in journals and book chapters. And as an Advance Practice Nurse (APN), she does her practice in SGH Pelvic Floor Disorder Service, which is a unique, multi-disciplinary service that provides clinical management for patients who have functional problems of the pelvic floor of urologic, gynaecologic or colorectal pathology.

Ms Laura Tham is a Nurse Clinician in Ageing-In-Place Community Care Team (AIP-CCT), Alexandra Health System. She was a qualified Registered Nurse since 1994, obtained Advanced Diploma in Emergency Nursing in 1999 and completed Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) in 2001. She is currently pursuing Master of Gerontology at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), formerly known as UniSim.She is leading a team of community nurses in rendering home-based care to residents with various needs in the northern part of Singapore. She was awarded HMDP scholarship to Hong Kong in 2016 to learn best practices in community nursing and palliative care in the home settings. She is trained in Advanced Care Planning and facilitated discussions with clients and loved ones.

Ms Ong Choo Eng is a Senior Nurse Clinician and has been a Stoma Care Nurse since 2003. She was trained in Wound, Ostomy & Continence in School of Nursing in 1993 and was awarded HMDP scholarship to St’s Mark Hospital, London in United Kingdom in 1999 to further enhance her skills on Stoma Care. She is currently in Singapore General Hospital and is leading a team of Wound Care Team. She is very experienced in stoma and fistula management.

Her role includes pre-operative counseling, post-operative teaching, managing Enterocutanous fistula and complex perianal wound. She is greatly involved in hospital-wide training on Stoma and Wound Management related courses. She is also a Clinical Preceptors for Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing (Wound, Ostomy and Continence practice) by Curtin University.

Ms Chow Pek Yee graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics from University of Kentucky and Master in Nutrition & Dietetics from University of Sydney.She is working at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital Singapore as Principal Dietitian, and oversees the clinical component of dietetics department. Her previous workplaces include National Kidney Foundation Singapore and Renal Nutrition Support Programme at National University Health System and. She has 15 years’ experience in preventing and decreasing malnutrition in kidney failure patients.Ms Chow has given numerous professional and public talks relating to a wide variety of nutrition related topics. She is actively involved in Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association as various office-bearers since 2000 and has been the president since 2008. She has also held regional positions such as the President for Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (2011 – 2014) and is now the immediate past-President (2015-2019).
